This post is self explanatory. Especially if you noticed the large circle up there in the header. Not entirely new if you follow FG on facebook and twitter, but I’m finally ‘branding’ the blog with my new-ish logo.
Designer Karla Mickens, who happens to my little sister, is the pretty smiling face girl you see in the second photo. She’s an ultra talented designer and can talk typography with the best of them. She plans to relaunch her site but you can still see some of her work.
The idea: Think of a stamp you see on fresh produce or the side of temporary wooden boxes in the grocery store. The logo is a mark signifying what you see is fresh. It can go on anything, anywhere and still mean the same thing.
A week since my last post. Not a good look at all. I resisted the urge to check my analytics every hour. Just in case my readership plummeted exponentially. All the while thinking that perhaps I could get away with redirecting my homepage to my first post and cycling back just to look like I’m doing something over here. Haha. These are the thoughts of a Computer Science nerd.
On the flip-side, I’m adding the finishing touches to my first trunk show in NY. The excitement just may send me into a happy coma. I loved every minute of making more jewelry and the thought of meeting new people.
Now to this illustration. My sisters are all extremely talented. The youngest is a big-deal artistic prodigy who created my trunk show flyer along with this number in honor of Black History Month.
The flyer (designed by my talented sister, Karla Mickens) says it all… I’m having a trunk show in NYC during Fashion Week. And yes, I want to see your beautiful face. Plus! I’m giving you advance notice so you can book your flight. Plus Plus! Shop owner Brittanie Yvonne is kind enough to open her shop, Ehvonnae, for the event. Thank you Brittanie.
Spring is right around the corner and I’ve made quite a few colorful accessories to add to your wardrobe. And as usual, I’m using re-purposed materials. So in a way we get to look pretty while positively impacting Planet Earth.
Yes yes y’all! Spread the good news to your good friends.
See you in New York!

Life just ‘plus one-d’ me another year and increased the expectation that I need to be established, mature, and graceful. My birthday is sandwiched between Christmas and the New Year, so there’s never much to do. haha. You would think the opposite to be true. Now that I’m older than I was last week, I realized I can never go back; there’s no way to press pause. If I had that power, I may still be 12. Who knows.
I’m sure I look really mature acting in these photos. I never want to take myself too seriously. My sister and I played in a parking lot with Erika who also captured the moment. Later, we dusted off the old PS2 and rapped to PaRappa the Rapper with my husband.
Thank you Erika for capturing the day.
