Freshly-Given-Startup-Stampede-Pitch

If you looked at the first image and thought I’d formed a 60′s soul group, rest assured, I haven’t. Although my mom and sister could pass for back up Doo-wopers. BUT, if you guessed “oh she’s delivering her final pitch to a packed house” then ding ding you’re right. The Startup Stampede gave me a free ticket to run my mouth. I don’t think I’ve ever talked this much in a 2 month period. Oh but I’m sure my husband would disagree. Talking about myself and my business and why it’s so great and WHY EVERYONE SHOULD THINK SO is no small notion. But it is what it takes to be confident in what you’re doing. The more I talked, the easier it was to fish out the silly nonsense and get to the black beans and potatoes (we’re semi-veggies over here). Anyway, constant handshaking led to roof-top chillin with my loving husband, my sister Karla (who surprised me from NY) and my oh so cool parents.

The People’s House

This has been a year of exceeded expectations for sure. Just the other day, The Man and I attended a gala at the Governor’s Mansion. The guests of honor were female business owners of all walks of life. If you told me I’d be standing in a room with real estate agents, techies, artists, landscapers, all in HEELS, I would have side-eyed you.

I took home an award that night for the most daring business. Please know that although I am doing the work, God has undoubtedly taken the reigns as my PR, Marketing Agent, and High-Fiver. Woo Hoo…I must be dreaming!

Start something ladies and gents. Start something and do it well.

Durham is Great: Awkward Faces to Convince You

Please excuse my absence. I’m making a strong comeback with a video of my pearly whites.

A few months ago, I was contacted by MSN to show off the parts of my city that I love. The irony is that although I was born and raised in North Carolina, I’m a country girl, I’ve tried to leave more times than I can count. At least in my mind I was always some where a little more cool.

Ironically, I have re-fallen in love with my state. Especially the Durham area. The internet is on fire about this city and its neighboring capital, Raleigh. The Triangle area is definitely one to watch.

At the time of this posting, I have yet to watch this video. So the chances are very high that you are seeing it before me. I think I’ll wait until I’m alone in a closet and can squirm at my awkward super hyper facial expressions I’m prone to making when I’m excited. (That was a breath full) I’m sure they were all edited IN and not OUT.

Truth be told, Instagram is a great coverup for writers block and extreme busyness. I always find the time to snap a photo and upload to the ‘gram. And when I feel I’ve butchered my analytics, those filtered photos save the day.

Yes I’m Pinnin’

Do you remember those Dr. Scholl’s “Are you Gellin?” commercials? I’ve taken the time to find one if you’re in the dark. Bring that same terminology over and now I can answer, “Yeah I’m pinnin.”

Corny I know.

I realize Pinterest makes me that much cooler until something else comes out next week. In so many ways I have a lot of catching up to do. Not that I’m slow, I just eeeease into things. Read: quality pinning OVER duplicating another blogger’s blog. Pinning could definitely turn into that. To add to my list of needed upgrades, I do not own a smart phone and I am currently looking for a 35mm camera.
